Statement of Mission and Purpose

The Taiwanese American Cultural Society of the Capital District, Inc. was formerly established on August 7th, 2004. It is an IRS approved 501(c)(3) charitable not-for-profit corporation with tax-exempt status. Its mission is to promote Taiwanese arts, history, humanity, and society to various elements of community at large. As stated in the By-laws of TACS, the Corporation shall:

 

  • Promote the studies and appreciation of arts, culture, ethnic values, heritage, history, humanity, and language of the Taiwan;

  • Promote cultural diversity and community solidarity throughout the Capital District community;

  • Introduce the Capital District community to Taiwanese culture, etc, through art exhibitions, cultural exhibitions, lectures, musical performances,  presentations, seminars, theatrical performances, charity activities, etc;

  • Provide educational incentives to college, high school, and middle school students interested in pursuing Taiwanese art, culture, heritage, history, and language; and

  • Do any other act or thing incidental to or connected with foregoing purposes or in advancement thereof, but not for the pecuniary profit or financial gain of its members, Trustees or officers, except as permitted under Article 5 of the Not-for-Profit Corporation Law.

Membership Eligibility

Member. An individual who supports the purposes of the Society is eligible for membership in the Society after the individual’s application for membership, including any relevant payment of dues, has been duly accepted by the Board of Trustees.


Sponsoring Member. An individual who has endorsed the purposes and efforts of the Society and who has made an unspecified amount of financial contribution to the Society may, upon resolution of the Board of Trustees, become a Sponsoring Member of the Society, enjoying all of the benefits of membership within the Society, except that Sponsoring Members are not entitled to vote or participate in the discussion over any matter coming before the membership.

Guest Policy

TACS is a social and cultural organization. All TACS-sponsored events and activities are
opened not only to TACS members and their families but also to their friends and guests. The friends and guests of a TACS member shall be considered as personal guests of the member, and they are welcomed to attend TACS functions regardless of their political, cultural, and ethnical backgrounds. However, the personal guests of the TACS member must have a clear understanding that they are attending a TACS function, and all solicitation and/or personal agenda not pertaining to the purposes of TACS are prohibited.
